The casino

The Casino du Lac-Leamy next door is one of the country's better-looking floors — a polished, European-styled Loto-Quebec room of tables, a real high-limit area, poker and slots, more salon than sprawl. It's a floor to dress up a little for, not to grind through.

It stays elegant even when busy, with unhurried dealers and a genuine sense of occasion. High-rollers will find bigger rooms elsewhere, but for a stylish, well-run evening at the tables beside a lake, few floors match its poise.

The rooms

The Hilton is a proper full-service hotel — spacious, quiet, well-appointed rooms with the reliability the brand promises, and lake-facing rooms that lift the whole stay. It's a clear step above a standard business hotel, and the lakeside setting does a lot of the work.

Service is polished and attentive in a way that suits the setting, and the property carries a genuine sense of retreat despite being minutes from a capital city. Ask for a lake view on a higher floor — it's the difference between a good stay and a memorable one.

Dining & the extras

Dining is a real strength, topped by well-regarded fine dining and backed by comfortable restaurants and bars — this is a hotel you can eat very well in without leaving. The spa and the indoor and outdoor pools, set against the lake, make it a proper little resort.

The lakeside setting is the signature extra, rare for a casino-hotel this close to a city centre, and it turns an ordinary night into a small getaway. Downtown Ottawa's museums and Parliament are a short drive, so the city is yours when you want it.

Location & value

Minutes from downtown Ottawa but on its own lake in Gatineau, it offers a genuine escape without the drive, and the value is fair for a hotel of this quality — especially set against downtown Ottawa rates for a plainer room.

Book it for an anniversary, a capital-city weekend or simply a stylish night beside the water. It's the region's touch of glamour, and it wears it lightly.

The Verdict

The capital region's touch of glamour — a genuinely upscale lakeside hotel beside one of Canada's handsomest casinos, an easy hop from Ottawa.
